Dinosaur skull (cast) Majungasaurus crenatissimus

Bruce Museum Collection 2014.06

Majungasaurus crenatissimus was a carnivorous theropod dinosaur. With its short arms, large skull and bipedal stance this species was superficially similar to Tyrannosaurus rex, but belongs to a different family of dinosaurs called the Abelisauridae. Majungasaurus crenatissimus is the only dinosaur for which solid evidence of cannibalism has been discovered. Tooth marks matching the spacing, size and texture of Majungasaurus crenatissimus have been found on multiple scattered bones belonging to the same species. This species lived in Madagascar during the Cretaceous Period.
