Australian Little Penguin, Eudyptula minor

Bruce Museum Collection TBD

Standing less than one foot tall, little penguins are the smallest members of the penguin family. The striking blue color of their feathers is created by microscopic keratin nanofibers arranged in tiny parallel bundles, which refract blue light. This specimen was mounted from a captive penguin donated by the Wildlife Conservation Society.
